We’re Having a Party….

A Garden Party, that is….

Last weekend Julia Snyder came to teach her magnificent Garden Party canvas.  The artwork is by the Vicky Sawyer, newest artist licensed and distributed By Melissa Shirley.

I just love when Julia comes to visit.  We have SO much fun!  And she is so amazingly talented.

15 women traveled from all over the Northeast.  Their travels spanned anywhere from southern New Jersey to Massachusetts.

I’ve been dying to learn how she created the top of this birds hat.  It really blew my mind. Yes….I got to sit in on class to.  Well… a little bit.

It’s not too late to join the party.  We can kit one up for you, stitch guide and all the goodies that go with it.

I can’t wait for Julia to come back in November.

Three Years, Baby!

I’m a day late, but yesterday was the three year anniversary of The Enriched Stitch.  I can’t believe how time has flown by!

I can’t begin to express how much I love what I do every day.  I meet the most wonderful people and I get to spend my time with the amazing women who work at the shop with me.  I am lucky to call them my friends.  I couldn’t do what I do without you.

Next week I’ve got a few things planned to celebrate.  I just couldn’t get it all together with the Garden Party class and the embellishment classes with Julia Snyder this weekend.  It’s been a fun and crazy week.  But I sure am tired!

Thank you all for reading my blog and following along in my crazy needlepoint adventures.

A Tony Minieri Experience

Last weekend Jinny and I took a road trip down to a lovely shop in Pennsylvania for a two day canvas embellishment class with the renowned Tony Minieri.

I worked on this gorgeous piece by Raul Del Rio, which is distributed by Julia’s Needleworks.  I’ve always wanted to stitch a piece with beautiful parrots (or Macaws in this case)

I learned so much in this class.  So many new techniques to me.  I think free-form fly is my new favorite stitch!

And check out the branch the bird is sitting on. This technique is called Casalguidi.

A little Portugese Knotted Stem Stitch for the bamboo.

And I finally was able to learn Repousse’.  It’s amazing what I can learn when I take a class not in my own shop!

These tacked ribbon loops are so easy and so pretty!

I can’t wait to take another class with Tony.  This piece is going to be outstanding!

Stand by Me

Sometimes I like to reflect and get a little sappy.  Which is not usually my style. I am so lucky to meet wonderful people from all over the country.  Whether it is over the phone, Skype or Facetime video lessons, or our annual retreat.

I met Barbara at our first retreat.  She is a wonderful stitcher and the nicest person. Too bad she lives in Texas.  While she was in the shop, she purchased this adorable Annie Lane canvas “Stand By Me.”  She was so sweet to send these pictures of her finished canvas.

How cute is this?

She made a color copy and shrunk it down to fit in this little necklace she found.  How ingenious?

I don’t know if she bought shoelaces and ties them on or made twisted cord.  But I just think this is just so stinkin’ cute!

Sum, Sum, Summer Time

It’s another snowy day here in Connecticut.  Only 26 days left in March.  The end of winter is near!

I thought everyone might need a little touch of summer.  Mary Susan just finished stitching this adorable piece.

She is working on the stitch guide.  You can preorder your kits now.  We’ll have the pricing together in the next few days.

I can’t wait to see what she chooses for ribbons and trim to finish this as a sign.  She is the head of finishing at the store . . .should be good!

Baby Mockingbirds Class

Jinny will teaching this precious piece on Saturday May 30th 10-3.  So many techniques packed into this 9 x 5 canvas.  And . . .it’s on 13 mesh!  A quick stitch!

You’ll learn silk ribbon techniques, turkey work, how to fake a bullion knot, and SO much more.

Please call the store or sign up online.

Class size is limited to six students.  And, as always, kits and stitch guides are available.  You can also order kits, stitch guides and thread kits with the above link.

Little Finishes

I found this darling little bunny egg upstairs in the scary needlepoint room in my house.  Maybe one day I’ll be brave enough to share pictures of that with you.  Only three people have ever seen it!

All I had to do to finish this was add little pink beads in the center of the crosses.  It took me all of five minutes to finish.

This little Kathy Schenkel piece finishes as a little goody bag.

How adorable?  I can’t wait to get mine back from the finisher.

I stitched this Skittles ornament for my son Trip for this Christmas.  Clearly, he’s a big fan of Skittles.

Now back to some bigger pieces!

Cool Carnivore

It’s done!  Finally!

cool-carnivore-1

I love Charlie Harper canvases.  So much room to do great stitches.  You can really be creative with these canvases.  But what’s difficult, is keeping true to the geometric and simple nature of the designs.

cool-carnivore-2

I used Water n Ice for the whiskers.  It came out perfectly…seeing as how he is supposed to be in the swamp.  Get it?  Cool Carnivore!

cool-carnivore-3

Becki bought me this Swarovski tear drop crystal last summer when I first started working on this.  I think the hardest part of this piece was finding that tiny crystal in one of my stitching bags.

cool-carnivore-4

Actually, the most difficult part was the background.  I must have tried a dozen stitches and dozens of threads.  Again, Becki to the rescue with a four way mitered Bargello.  Say that ten times!  I used five different threads for this.  But, you normally would in doing a Bargello pattern.

The stitch guide is now available.  And we even have a canvas in stock!  Let me know if I can kit one up for you.
