Go Red with Thread National Stitch In – February 6th and 7th

Join us to support the American Heart Association at our stitch in on February 6th & 7th 10-3.

Come one or both days.  Registration is only available online and space is limited.  Click here to register.

But, before I give you the details, you’ll have to read on and the story behind it.

We all know the health benefits of needlepoint. But here is living proof.

A year ago I was fortunate enough to meet a new customer, Bill. After visiting his doctor, he was informed that there was no stronger dose of medication to control his blood pressure and was advised to find other ways to curb his medical condition.

Bill attended a yoga class and was quickly asked to leave.  Meditation made him angry.  Nothing was working.  His neighbor suggested he try needlepoint.  And voila!  A new stitcher was born.

A month later, Bill returned with a completed canvas, a smile on his face and beaming with pride over his work.  And what do you know?  Needlepoint worked for him as a way to relax. AND . . . His blood pressure dropped 10 points in one month!   Not due to an increase in medication, but simply because of needlepoint.

Now it’s time to spread the word! I have asked stores throughout the country to participate in this wonderful event throughout the month of February.  We have collaborated with The Meredith Collection to create a magnet for this event.

Any store can participate and the event details will be listed on a page on The Enriched Stitch website.   If your local store is not participating, please ask them to do so and contact The Enriched Stitch for more information.  This is an important cause that we all should be supporting.

Registration is $50/day.  Come one or both days.  Lunch is included. A portion of your registration fee includes a donation to the American Heart Association. Registration is required.  Registration is non-transferable.

What a Weekend!

I’m back from market and boy am I exhausted!  Between the jet lag and the constant go go go  . . . all I can I say is I’m pooped.

There were so many wonderful new canvases I don’t know where to begin.  I will admit, I didn’t take that many pictures.  There’s just not enough time in the day when I’m ordering over 500 new canvases.

I taught two classes which was really exciting for me.  I’ve taught at the Dallas show twice, but never at TNNA.  The really cool thing is I was asked to teach again next year and I’ll be teaching again at Dallas.

Speaking of classes, sign ups are now open for the Botanical Bunny that I will be teaching in the shop on Saturday January 30th 9:30-12:30.

You can sign up online or by calling the shop. Class is limited to 10 students so don’t hesitate.  The class is half full already.

AT bunny If you can’t make it to the shop, kits are always available.  You can order through the shop or online.

I hope you’ll join me in this class!

To Market, To Market

Forget Christmas . . .it’s the most wonderful time of the year!  Patti and I are off to not so sunny San Diego on Thursday for the winter TNNA show.  Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the Destination Dallas show.  But this show is totally different.  It’s housed in a convention center, which is funny considering how small our industry is.  But we’re joined by the knitters, weavers, felters, and other folks that I have no idea what they do.

This year I will be teaching two classes at market.  The first is this adorable bunny from Associated Talents.

AT bunny

I will be teaching this class at The Enriched Stitch on Saturday January 30th from 9:30-12:30.  The canvas is $110. We still need to add up the thread kit . . . but lets be honest . . .do we really care what the threads cost when you’re stitching something so adorable? The stitch guide is $30.  I’m even going to waive the class fee on this one!  So be sure to sign up as soon as possible.  Space is limited to ten students.

Kits will also be available if you can’t attend the class.

The second class is a little piece by Susan Roberts.

flower trio

I don’t have this one on the schedule yet.  But it will surely be a class this spring.

Both of these canvases feature different ribbon techniques and all sorts of other cool stuff.  I hope we can cover everything in the two hour class.

As always, kits are available for those of you who can’t attend the class.  But, maybe we’ll try our hand at Skype classes again.

We’ll be posting a ton of pictures on Facebook from the show, so be sure to like the shop on Facebook.  You don’t want to miss out on anything!

The Year in Review

Happy New Year!

It has been another wonderful year at The Enriched Stitch . . .the best yet.  We have so many exciting things planned for this year.  You’re gonna be blown away!

I want to thank all of the wonderful women who work at the shop.  They are my muses, my inspiration, my backbone, my cheerleaders.  I couldn’t do what I do without them.

It’s been a busy year.  I stitched a ton.  Wrote more than 75 stitch guides.  So here’s most of what I’ve stitched this year.  And in case you’re wondering  . . .everything you see featured here has a stitch guide.

I know there’s more that I’ve stitched, but I can’t find all the pictures.  Here’s to a year filled with creativity!

Hope he doesn’t read this

I’m pretty sure that my dad doesn’t read my blog, so I can post a pic of his Christmas present that just came back from the finisher.

okemo

When I first saw these series of ornaments of ski mountains in the northeast I knew I had to stitch this one. My family has been going to Okemo in Vermont since I was about five years old.  We spent nearly every weekend there in the winter months.  Long car rides with six kids and a dog . . .I don’t know how my parents did it.

I hope he doesn’t see this.  But if he does . . .Merry Christmas Dad!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

We love Christmas at The Enriched Stitch.  The amount of ornaments that the staff alone stitches throughout the year is amazing.

I had to share these two adorable ornaments that Linda stitched.

IMG_0186

IMG_0187

Aren’t they “fab” as Linda would say.

Linda was the inspiration behind the ruffle ribbon heart class I taught at the Dallas market.  She wanted to learn how to do the ruffle on the pink dress I stitched but didn’t want to stitch that piece.  So, her idea was to take cookie cutters (since none of us can draw here) and fill them with the same technique.

The other night I emailed the pictures to Jean, the owner of River Silks, and she was blown away.  But not nearly as blown away as Linda when I told her that Jean wanted to purchase her stitch guides.  Linda swore she’d never be good enough to be writing guides.  I told her never say never.

The guides and kits will be available after the first of the year.  Let us know if you’d like one or both.

Nativity Scene – a new online class

Becki just finished up this beautiful nativity scene by Susan Roberts, just in time for the holiday season.

nativity 1

Join us in our newest online class starting in March 2016.

nativity 4

The canvas is $175  and measures 15 x 6 on 18 mesh. The class will be sent out in four installments.  In the first installment you will receive the canvas, stitch guide for the first section and the threads to complete that section.  The other three shipments will be the other installments of the stitch guide with the threads.  Each installment is $25 plus the threads.

nativity 2

The best part about this nativity is that it’s one and done.  This is a much more economical way of stitching a nativity. One canvas  . . .one finishing cost.  Don’t get me wrong, I’ve stitched a complete nativity set and have three (maybe four?) in the works. And, the way we’re timing this you should be able to get it completed for the Christmas finishing deadline for next year.

nativity 3

You must sign up by January 7th to be be guaranteed to be included in the first shipment.  You can sign up online or call the store to sign up.  A non-refundable deposit of $75 is required to sign up.

If you’ve never worked with a stitch guide by Becki you’re in for a real treat.  There’s nothing quite like them.

One Day Sale – 25% off all in stock canvases

I know you’ve been anxiously waiting to see what’s in stock.  Some canvases appear in multiple pictures.  This doesn’t mean that we have multiples.  The frame you should refer to is listed above the picture.

If we have your credit card on file, feel free to email your order and we’ll put it aside for you.  Please email me directly with questions regarding canvases.  Please do not post a comment asking a price on the blog.  It is much easier for me to answer your email directly and I most likely won’t be able to respond.

We’re open 10-3.  203-210-5107

Holiday Party and Sale

If you know me at all, you know I love a good party.

Stop by the shop this Saturday, December 12th to celebrate the holidays with us.

All in stock canvases will be 25% off

All in stock bags, accessories and lights will be 20% off. Some exclusions may apply.

Bring something to stitch and hang out for a while.  There will be giveaways and prizes.  So much fun!

For those of you who aren’t local, no need to worry.  I will be posting pictures of our canvas boards tomorrow night.  You can give us a call on Saturday if there’s something you’d like us to send your way.  You know I’d never leave my friends from far and wide out!

If you’re looking for a present (for yourself lol), have you seen these amazing lamps?

z bar

I am in love with them.  I used to stitch under a regular lamp with three light bulbs and I thought that was enough.  Boy was I wrong!  I can’t live without this lamp.  I even brought it to class last weekend.
