You and Me

I left you the other day telling you about the ornaments that I made for my son and my husband this year with a teaser of another story.

A few weeks ago, when my son, Trip (he’s a third- hence the nickname), and I finished decorating the needlepoint tree I said “We need more ornaments.”  He agreed.  So, I went upstairs to my office/needlepoint room, and grabbed a pile of Christmas ornaments.  I laid them out on the floor and told him he could pick three and those would be next ones I would stitch. He first selected the little “Naughty” sign by Kathy Schenkel, then the Rockefeller Center tree ornament from DJ Designs and a tiny nutcracker from Susan Roberts.  Then he spotted another canvas and said “I should have chosen that one.”  I told him he could still choose that one but asked why did he want to choose that one.  And he said, “Because it’s you and me.”

Well, if you want to know how to bring tears to a mother’s eyes, that sure did it.  So, I finished it up that night.  It was half done, like many pieces in my stash.  I knew we were sending the last package to the finisher the next morning so it had to get done.

I went to the store early that Saturday morning and glued on the Swarovski crystals and popped it in the envelope.  Mary Susan begged the finisher to do a favor for me and embroider the back.  It just came back today.

Or you and me.

This by far is the most special piece I have ever done.

Cheers!

Not a lot of stitching going on at my house this time of year.  So much to do, so little time.  But I did manage to squeeze in one little project last week.

champagne-cocktail

These Christmas cocktails by Leigh are so much fun and a quick stitch.  Perfect for this time of year.

Only seven more in the series to go!  Wait till you see how I plan on finishing them.  It may be a while. LOL!

Our Christmas Tradition

Gotta love the third grade projects my son has to do for school this week. He’s supposed to write about a family tradition that we have during the holiday season.  I think the teacher is looking for something from our heritage, but honestly, we’re mutts from all over Europe, so we don’t have a particular tradition in that regard.

So, I put on my thinking cap and told him he should write about how I make him a needlepoint ornament every year.  This year, he picked out which canvas he wanted me to stitch.  I’ll tell you all about that ornament when it comes back from the finisher in a few days.  It’s a really good story.  You better get the tissues when I post that blog!

beach

This year I stitched him this hashtag sign from Kristine Kingston.  We’ve been renovating our basement the last few months and he and I have decided that we are going to turn it into a beach house.

 block-island

My husband’s family has been going to Block Island every summer since before he was born.  We’ve been going almost every summer, but unfortunately had to skip this year.  I’ve been working on this travel round from Silver Needle for two years now (I think). It was time to just put that darn needle in and out of the canvas and get it DONE!  These make excellent gifts.  They have nearly every destination you can think of.  Tuck that little thought away for your gifts for 2017.

Meet the Family

The story continues . . .Gingie and the Missus had twins!

One big happy family.

This little family has so much meaning to Linda.  It started out with the creation of Gingie, and then the fun of him getting married.  But when she found out her niece was having twins, the babies were born.  The family is now making their way to Switzerland where Linda’s niece lives.  I’m sure they will be very happy there.

Paint the Town Red

Look what just came back from the finisher!

How fun is this little pillow?  I designed the finishing to coordinate with my Breakfast at Tiffany’s piece.

I always say . . .you’ve gotta have a pair.

This piece was designed by Melissa Prince and is one of the three canvases that were designed exclusively for shops participating in my national fundraiser for The American Heart Association, Go Red with Thread.

Registration is open for our stitch in on February 4th 10-3.  A $25 minimum donation to the charity is all you need to make to sign up.  Come spend the day stitching on whatver you like in our classroom and enjoy a little “me time.”

We’ll have special sales and goodies for those attending the fundraiser. We might even have a visit from my favorite Zumba instructor.  We all need to get moving and get healthy!

I’ll also be teaching this piece at the shop on February 11th 10-12:30.  If you can’t make it to the class, we can always send you a kit.  A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the canvas and stitch guide will be donated to The American Heart Association.  So join us and support a great cause!
