Maggie has an amazing new artist in her lineup.  I flipped over these canvases.  I can’t wait to get my hands on one, particularly the wave.

More Finishing

joy-penguin

This pillow is so stinkin’ cute!  I had this trim lying around the shop that didn’t use to finish my reindeer pillow and I thought it would be perfect for Joy’s pillow.

msm-heart

Mary Susan stitched this for daughter’s host family that she is staying with while she has been studying abroad.  Quite a nice gift!
msm-hermes

This piece is bittersweet.  Mary Susan stitched this for her mother in law for her birthday.  Unfortunately, her mother in law passed away recently before she could give it to her.

patti-blue

The last thing we want to think about in Connecticut is snow, but I just had to show Patti’s pretty piece.

Gingerbread House Class Recap

This is one of the most beautifully stitched pieces I have every seen.  Not a thread or bead out of place.  But that’s Susan Portra for you.

g-1-(1)

The turret is a padded trame stitch.  I ripped mine out twice.  It would help if read the stitch diagram and didn’t keep doing a Pavilion stitch.

g2

The wreath is precious.  And how about the candy cane twists?g-1-(3) g-1-(2)

This part is triple padded and double stitched with 6 strands of floss.  Oh my!  I haven’t used that much thread in years.  But you have to in order to lay the twisted cords into the grooves that are created.

g3

I have no idea how she made this swirly candy.  I must have been busy doing something else at that time.  Good thing I have the stitch guide.

g4

Susan LOVES twisted cord appliqued to the canvas.   It makes great swirls and circles.  I had never used the twister tool.  I learn something new from every teacher.  Wait till you see what I worked on with her in my private lessons.

Gingerbread House kits are available as well as the stitch guide and threads kits individually.  Susan will be sending more guides soon.

Bring Your Canvas to Life – Day 1

All I have to say is OMG!  Susan Portra is AMAZING! What she does with a canvas is so beautiful . . .needlepoint in it’s most pure form.

photo-2

Susan is working with Caryl on this gorgeous Liz Pearl Mermaid.

pearl

Look how she surrounded the large 4mm pearl with size 15 seed beads.  Brilliant!hair

Here’s the answer to a bad hair.  Doesn’t it look like it’s moving in the water?

caryl

Here’s Caryl, the proud mama.

butterfly

Pat worked on this beautiful canvas by Laurel Birch.  We learned a new, easier way of doing Turkey Work.

aggie

Aggie is working on a piece from the collection.  Maybe she’ll give it to me when she’s done.  I might have to fight Susan for it.

coloring

I worked on this Liz piece that I have been in love with for years.  Susan told me to lay in a bargello stitch with 1 (yes 1 ply) of silk.  Then, the fresh thing that she is, colored in the black polka dots with a fabric marker.  Genius!  This way you don’t break up the stitch.

donna

And we can’t leave out the twisted cord.  Donna worked on this Melissa Shirley design and Susan is having her make twisted cords for the roof of the center birdhouse.

twisting

Here’s Donna and Helene doing the twist!

I am trying my best, but there aren’t words to describe just how amazing Susan Portra is.  You just have to experience her.

Finishing

Opening a box of finishing is like Christmas day!  Oh, who am I kidding?  Every day is like Christmas day when we get goodies in the mail.

ho-ho-ho-1

Mary Susan stitched this adorable little piece by Kathy Schenkel.

ho-ho-ho-2

The finishing is adorable!

reindeer

I forgot that this little reindeer was out at the finisher.  That’s the best when you get finishing back that you forgot about.

sledding-kid

I snatched up this little gem at the Stitch-It’s trunk show.

witch

Witch number 3 has returned to Becki’s coven.

witch-2

The fabrics and embellishments on this piece are stunning.

Owl-and-skunk-(2)

I don’t think I ever posted a finished picture of my owl.  I’ll do a blog with close up pics soon.

chicken-soup

Patti stitched “Chicken Soup” by Annie Lane.

I wish you could see these pieces in person.  Pictures never do it justice.

Exclusive Golden Maiden Progress

Becki has been stitching away on our exclusive Golden Maiden from Leigh Designs.  She is magnificent!  So opulent . . .

golden-1

She is coming along!  Becki is using the same backgrounds throughout the entire series for continuity.  Her dress has been fashioned out of Painter’s Threads.

golden-2

Her diadem is stunning.  So much bling!  I asked Becki how that beautiful little girl would be able to hold that on her head.  Well, the answer is a story about the Amber Room in Russia.  She’ll tell you all about it in the stitch guide.  The short story is that amber is very light.  Who knew?

golden-3

Becki still needs to add some Angora French Knots into her fabulous fur cuffs.

Call the shop or order her online.  Canvases are on the way.  The stitch guide will be available as soon as Becki finishes her up.  No pressure, Becki!

Think Spring – Deeva Birdhouse Garden

It’s been a cold Spring (if you can call it that) here in Connecticut.  This Needle Deeva piece was the perfect solution to a long, bleak winter.

garden-finished

So many flowers . . .so many different ways to stitch them!

garden-2

This is my favorite flower.  I love the new drop beads from the Collection.  garden-3

If I had to pick, the pink birdhouse is my favorite one.  Very Mackenzie Child.
garden-4 garden-5 garden-6

I’m putting the final touches on the stitch guide.  Kits will be shipping out next week (hopefully).  I may be a little busy with Susan Portra teaching at the shop.

The canvas is available on 18 or 13 mesh.  The stitch guide is for 18 mesh, but can easily be adapted to 13 mesh.

Call the shop or order online.  We have more canvases on order. The stitch guide will be available for purchase separately.  Thread kits are additional.  I haven’t had a chance to price that out yet.
