There is a lovely woman who rents space next to me called “The Painted Cookie.” They are beautifully painted and actually taste good. I must be in there 3 days a week picking up something for my son. So, when I stopped in before the holidays to pick up a cookie for Trip’s holiday party at school, she had Elf on the Shelf cookies. SO CUTE!
I immediately texted a picture to my friend Kristine, asking if she could paint it for me.
The canvas is $55 and comes with the stitch guide. The thread kit is $25.50
We’re happy to send one your way for the special little person in your life!

We’ve waited patiently for our pieces. We had to let our pieces slide at the holidays so that customers pillows could be finished.
I guess we overwhelmed our finisher!
I stitched this pillow by Amanda Lawford. Such a fun piece!
How cute is the ruffle trim?
There is a stitch guide available for this canvas.
Becki’s Bargello Dog is back
I though Becki was nuts when she brought this HUGE ribbon in. I just couldn’t envision it, but it works.
Bargello is awesome. Try it somewhere if you haven’t already.
We do not have a guide for this piece. Becki’s computer did something nasty to it and it can’t be found. We do have a thread list for it.
Patti stitched this darling pillow for a friend of hers who’s having a baby.
Our pillow finisher has outdone herself. She’s willing to deal with all of the crazy thing we ask her to do. She’s a magician!
Becki and I have been working away on Melissa Shirley’s newest basket. I have never stitched a piece with anyone before. I’m a little bit of a control freak. I thought it would be tough for me to share, but not when it’s with Becki. We are having a blast!
We have spent hours talking and texting about this piece.
The first thing I tackled was the background. I knew I wanted a very light laid and tied stitch and to tone down the color of the background. Not my favorite color. The first pattern I tried was easier, but boring. Then Becki texted me a diagram from the Needleworks stitch of the week. Great idea, but too heavy. So, I made a variation on a them.
I knew gathered stitch would work perfectly for this piece. Other than that and the squirrel, we were pretty much stumped on every aspect of this piece.
Becki started working her magic on this little guy, but realized she needed a few more colors. Isn’t that always the case?
Next we decided to tackle the poinsettia. This was our first idea. We though we had a sure thing, except we were going to do it with Chenille. That would have been worse. We looked at it and couldn’t believe how wrong we were.
Here’s our final product. We tried fly stitch, which ended up looking like satin stitch, which is so much easier. We had threads tangled in the back. Becki was untangling everything while I was stitching. It was quite a sight.
Then I went back in and painted (with thread) the veins. I think we are on the right track with the pine cones, but I need a few more colors and I have to play around with the size.
The basket stitch is really simple and quick. Becki lays every thread perfectly! I don’t have that kind of patience.
We will send out the first half of the thread kit with that portion of the guide when we get about halfway through. Let us know if you want to join in on the fun!
Our winter sale ends today Friday, February 28th.
We thought we’d celebrate the end of winter (even though it is going to snow again on Sunday)
You can email me up till midnight tonight and I will honor the sale price, even after the store is closed.

Here’s a little taste of what’s in stock.
So many new canvases have come in since we started the sale. Here’s pictures of the updated boards.
Summer at the Shore is back from the framer and it’s magnificent. Everything I imagined it to be.
I work with an amazing framer, Pat, at River Road Gallery here in Wilton. I come up with ideas and she makes them happen. She popped into the shop one day to pick up some threads, and I said “Pat, I have this great idea. I want to frame this piece so that it looks like your looking out a window at it.” She had a pensive look on her face and I could see the wheels spinning in her head.
This frame was custom made.
I wanted a ledge on it so that it looked like the moulding around a window.
I love playing at the gallery. So many colors, shapes and sizes to choose from. It’s like a needlepoint shop, except that I don’t have to work there. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE owning the shop. But I do miss shopping for needlepoint like I used to. I certainly do buy a lot of canvases, but with great power comes great responsibility.
Details will be coming soon for our retreat this year. I’m just working on finalizing all of the details and then registration will be open.
The fourth birdhouse in our Melissa Prince birdhouse club is done and shipping out.
I tried something new with this one. Instead of basic stem stitch on the flower petals, I twisted the Flair and held it taught as I plunged the needle back into the canvas. I think it created a totally different look than if I hadn’t twisted it.
Remember, let the threads do the work for you. There are so many fantastic threads available.
Every time I order a new thread line, I think to myself, that should be enough threads. What am I talking about? There’s never enough thread options!
My second stitch along is Christmas Pageant by Annie Lane. I just love her artwork. Each one is cuter and funnier than the next. When the trunk show was at the shop, all we could do was giggle about the canvases.
This just cracks me up.
I told you Colonial Knots are my new favorite. Two ply of Gumnut Daisies did the trick. Isn’t her veil pretty? Mary should always have an elegant veil, even if she is portrayed by a sheep.
For a person who doesn’t like cats (don’t kill me!) I think he came out pretty cute. I don’t know much about cats, but I do my research and I wanted to make this little guy look like a Tabby Cat. How’d I do?
Now to give everyone a halo. Should I bead the halos or use Hot Wire?
If you want to stitch along with me, let me know. I am waiting for canvases to arrive and as soon as they do I’ll send one your way. I’ll send you the stitch guide and threads in installments, depending on how much progress I have made and how large the piece is. Call or email me with any questions.
