Maleficent & Audrey . . .An Uncommon Pair

I can’t begin to tell you how much fun these movie coasters by Melissa Prince are to stitch.  The only measure 4 x 4.  That’s an evening stitch for me.

maleficent

This picture doesn’t begin to do her justice.  The horns are crazy padded.  The collar stands out.

And there’s classy Audrey with her beautiful jewels.  I searched for her bling when I went into the city last week.  Now she has a diamond tiara and a pearl necklace.

I also stitched the Titanic coaster for my little guy for Christmas.

titanic

If you’ve ever met him . . .you know he’s obsessed with boats. . .and lately Titanic.

There are so many more on Melissa’s website.  Check it out.  I’ve got Star Wars on bars now.  I’ll be sure to show you when I’m done.

We’ve also cooked up a really fun idea for a club based on these coasters that will be coming later this year.

I will have stitch guides for all of these as soon as I get a second to write them.  But first I have to finish my guides for my classes I’m teaching at market this January.  More on that later.

Making Music with Tony

There’s nothing better than the Tony Minieri experience. I spent three wonderful days at Edwardian Needle in Tony’s canvas embellishment class.

I worked on this beautiful piece called “Soul Singer” by the artist Chico from Julia’s Needleworks.

soul-singer-1

I know…I know…not a typical piece for me. I picked this piece not only because of the vibrant colors and the fact that I’m a musician, but also because I wanted to learn about motion and movement on a piece. And Tony definitely delivered.

I learned how to do a buttonhole around a ring and apply it to the canvas.  How cool is that?

soul-singer-2

This is my first attempt and I need to redo it.  It’s very difficult to get your tension right.

This piece is going to be amazing!  Hopefully I’ll get some time to work on it.  I’m almost all caught up on my stitching commitments.  I’m almost finished with a piece that will be exclusive to our store starting in February.  And no . . .no hints on that right now.  And I have to finish the last of the Sassy Ladies.  Wait till you see what I found at M&J Trimmings in the city for her skirt!

But for now, I’m going to work on my son’s second stocking.  That’s a story for another day.

Happy Thanksgiving

It’s been a great year so far.  I am so thankful for being so lucky to do what I love to do every day. (Well . . .almost. . .those pesky bills and what not.)

It’s so wonderful meeting new people every day who share a love (or obsession) of stitching.  I am so fortunate to be able to work with designers to create new canvases, develop a new thread line with Planet Earth (more on that later), have access to anything and everything that brings my art to life, and so much more.

I am blessed by regular customers who pop in to the shop at least once a week, bringing us lunch, as well as getting a chance to talk to customers from far away who I’ve been emailing with.  Each and every customer brings with them a unique spice that together has helped me build a great shop.

And to the women who help me tirelessly at the shop: Aggie, Mary Susan, Becki, Patti, Linda, Andrea and Nancy . . .I could never do what I do without all of you.  You are my sounding board . . .my voice of reason . . .my inspiration.

Thank You

OK . . .now that I’ve been sappy ( a rare moment for me), lets get to some stitching.  Here’s our Thanksgiving Club that Aggie stitched last year back from the finisher.

Sassy Lady #3

sassy lady green 1

Her jewelry finally arrived!  I couldn’t show her to you without her looking her best.  She would be mortified!

This is the third canvas in our newest Sassy Ladies Club.  One more to go.  She’ll be done soon enough.

sassy lady green 3

The club starts in February of 2016.  Read more about it in the online store.

sassy lady green 2

I just love her.  I think she’s darling.  Every little detail from her pearls to the ruffle to her basket are so endearing.

I’ve been trying to get a few things finished for Christmas gifts and off for last minute finishing.  By the way, we can still take ornaments, stockings and belts and have them back for Christmas.

Call the store to sign up for the club or you can sign up online.

A Christmas Teapot

Another stunning piece from our very own Mary Susan.

teapots-msm

Mary Susan started this piece when Carolyn Baird came to teach at The Enriched Stitch back in September.  What a wonderful time we had in class.  So much fun . . .so much creativity.

The stitch guide will be available soon.  And maybe even a class in the future.  Let us know if you’re interested.  We can always put a kit together.

The Duchess and Nadia

Another stunning piece from the one and only Becki Gebhardt. And making her grand entrance is Duchess the Fox, artwork by Vicky Sawyer.

duchess

Everything about this piece is fabulous.  The beautiful background pattern, the open angled stitches, and then there’s the dew drops in her tiara.  Of course she has to have an impressive crown.  She is a duchess, after all.

Becki has written another fabulous stitch guide.  If you’ve never used one of her guides, I can assure you they are impressive and detailed.

We have her all kitted up at the shop.

And look at Becki’s latest finish . . .Snowy Nadia.  Another Vicky Sawyer.

DC Designs Santa Club

We fell in LOVE with these new little Santas from DC Designs at the Dallas market and I knew we had to offer a club with these cutie pies.

Each installment of the club is $55 and includes a stitch guide with the purchase of the threads.

I have no idea what the threads will be yet, considering I don’t even have the canvases yet.  They’re supposed to arrive in the next few weeks.  But one thing I can promise you is that threads will be repeated throughout the club.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

No . . .I’m not singing Christmas carols already.  Actually . . .as much as I love Christmas and the songs that accompany it, I do find it irritating that retail stores are pushing Christmas on us already.  Like we don’t know it’s coming? lol

My favorite time of the year is when Julia Snyder comes to teach at the shop.  If you’ve never taken a class with Julia, you definitely should.  She travels all over the country and I’m sure is at a shop near you at some point if you can’t make the pilgrimage to The Enriched Stitch.

She’ll be teaching canvas embellishment classes this weekend on November 6th & 7th.  Come for one or both days.

Here’s how it works . . .canvas embellishment does NOT mean putting crap all over your canvas.  Julia selects the threads and stitches for the canvas of your choosing that I can guarantee you will blow your mind.  She is so unbelievably creative . . . and not to mention . . .so much fun!

I hope you can join us this weekend.  We have one spot open on Friday and a few on Saturday.  And lucky me!  I have extra help at the shop so I can play too.  Whatever shall I work on?  You’ll just have to wait and see.
