Finally! Finally! Finally!  You can now subscribe to the blog and have it appear in you email as soon as I publish it.  No more checking Chilly Hollow to see when was the last time I posted.

I love to blog.  And honestly, this is where the best information is about what’s going on at The Enriched Stitch.  I always start here.  Sometimes I get distracted and forget to Facebook it. send an email or post it on the website.  WAY too many places for information.

So . . .be sure to subscribe to be kept up to date with what’s happening.

Baby Mockingbirds Class

Well. . . I’m just back from a much needed vacation in St. Thomas with my family.  So relaxing.  Beautiful weather.  Gorgeous beaches.  Delicious cocktails.  What more could a girl ask for?

It drove me nuts that I didn’t get to finish this piece before I left.  So, of course i had to wrap it up as soon as I got home.

mockingbirds-1

I’ll be teaching a class in the store on May 30th from 10-3.  Call the shop for the details.  203-210-5107

I found this canvas to be quite a challenge to stitch on 13 count canvas.  Don’t get me wrong. . . I LOVE 13 mesh.  But, this piece is kind of small and too detailed.  So, unlike my usual open work that I do, I felt these guys needed to be full coverage.  I haven’t stitched like that in years!  So, to capture the beautiful painting, I used three or four shades of the threads to recreate that.

mockingbirds-2

This was such a fun piece to stitch.  Endless possibilities on the hats.  This little birdie got a hat made of silk ribbons and drop beads.  And I just realized I’m not done!  She needs a bead on the tip of her hat.  Uggggghhhh!  I hate when that happens!

mockingbirds-3

I found this hat to be the most challenging.  My initial thought was to do Turkey Work for the white poof and lay some rouched Pepper Pot Silk on top.  So, I thought I would play with some Boucle.  Colonial Knots with that thread are not pleasant.  But well worth the result.

mickingbirds-2

This hat I am most proud of.  I wrapped Silk Wrapped Pearl Purl with Chenille for the top part.  Then for the bottom of the hat I twisted two strands of Chenille together and let the puff up on the canvas.

mockingbirds-4

Check out the wing on this little guy.  I did two sets of buttonhole stitch.  The problem with Buttonhole is that you can’t get the shading unless you use an overdye.  And that’s very difficult to control the shading.  So . . .I did a little needle painting within the Buttonhole.  My husband was very impressed with that.

If you can’t make it to the class, kits are always available.  Also, you can always set up a lesson via Skype or Face Time with me. We have two spots open in the class.  So don’t hesitate to sign up.  The stitch guide will be available after the class through The Enriched Stitch.  The stitch guide is $50.

I have lots to share with you from my vacation.  Both personally and what I was stitching.  Now. . .off to write that stitch guide!

Happy Easter

It’s been a lovely Sunday filled with family, egg hunts, brunch, and of course  . . .stitching.

easter-parade

I’ve been stitching away on one of my favorite pieces of all time.  The Easter Parade by Ashley Dillon. My Fourth of July Parade just came back from the finisher and it inspired me to stitch this piece. It was just sitting there waiting to be stitched in the trunk show.  How could I resist?

easter-parade-2

I’m trying to create depth and perspective in this piece.  The hills and sky are very lightly stitched so that I could make the tree and all the little characters stand out.  I love how these leaves came out.

easter-parade-3

I’ve started on her dress, but I’ve gotten a little side tracked on a piece that I have to stitch for an upcoming class at the store.  You’ll be seeing that later this week.  It will be done by the time I go on vacation next week.  For sure!

Here’s a few other Easter pieces that I stitched this year.  I’m on a mission to have an entire Easter tree next year.

Fun with Julia

I’m a little delayed in getting to post about Julia Snyder’s visit.  It has been a crazy couple of weeks.  I’ve had two days off in the last 20 days.  I’m pooped!  But I spent all day this past Sunday power stitching.  Probably for about 10 hours.  My favorite kinda day!

We had two days of canvas enhancement classes, with a Garden Party wedged in between.  So much fun!

Here’s a few of the canvases that people worked on.

Aggie snuck out of work early to pop in for the class.  This is quite a large piece for her.  Aggie usually sticks to smaller canvases.

And we managed to squeeze the Garden Party in between.

We still have a few extra kits if you are interested.  This piece is SO much fun!  Just wish I had time to stitch it!

Block Island North Lighthouse

Look what came in the mail today!

BI-lighthouse-2

When I saw this in Needlepoint Now I knew I had to stitch it.  My family goes on vacation to Block Island every summer. My husband has been going there since he was born.  It’s a really special place for us.  Years ago, when I was in high school, my husband (boyfriend at the time of course) drove out on the beach by the lighthouse one night.  Enough said.

I don’t think you’re allowed to drive cars on the beach there any more.  Gone are the days of yesteryear!

I’ll be putting this on bars as soon as I finish the Easter Parade by Liz and a few other Easter goodies.  I’ll probably take this on vacation with me in a few weeks.  I promised Cindy at Wellesley Needlepoint, the distributor for J & J canvases,  that I would write a stitch guide for this piece.  Maybe I’ll even take a little trip up to her shop to teach this piece.  Who knows?

BI-lighthouse-1

Ideas are brewing.  Now it’s time to do a little research and look at some photographs of this lighthouse.  I’ve got a cool idea for the flag.  Never know if it’s gonna work till I try!

Finishing Fun!

There is nothing better than getting finishing back.  Opening a box of finishing is one of my favorite things about owning the store.  That and boxes full of canvases.

I’ll admit, I was in a stitching slump last fall.  Nothing was inspiring me.  Too tired to stitch.  And too many stitching commitments. But, I got my groove back and here are the rewards.  All of these canvases have stitch guides.  Just give me a call or shoot me an email if you’re interested in something.

Bunnies-4-finsihed

The original bunny club is reunited.  All the bunnies are available as kits individually.

Little-Chick-A-finished

The first chick in our upcoming club showed up in that wonderful package, as well.  It’s not too late to sign up.  Not sure if I can get you into the first shipment.  But I’ve got more canvases on the way.

Call the shop or sign up online

Cool-Carnivore-Finished

This picture doesn’t do this piece justice.  I’ve had a place for it in my family room since I started it.  Every time I catch it out of the corner of my eye, I will confess. . .I’m impressed with myself.

easter-basket-finished

I started this adorable little Kathy Schenkel piece last year.  I forced myself to finish it up over myFebruary vacation.

Flags-on-Clothesline-Finished

Flags on a Clothesline is part of our Americana series.  I had intended on making this a key holder.  But I never got around to finding cute drawer pulls to attach.

Fourth-of-July-March-Finished

The Fourth of July Parade was the first class I ever taught at The Enriched Stitch.

Fourth-Side

I love the ribbon!  Can’t wait to put bring this home this summer.  It’s just about the right time to start stitching your Fourth of July canvases in order to get them back in time.

Mrs.-Claus-Finished

This canvas cracks me up.  I have two more sets of feet on order.  Obviously Mrs. Claus needs company.

I’ve got a few more pieces to bring to the framer.  My other favorite store to play in.  Thanks to Pat at River Road Gallery in Wilton!  You are a genius!

Magic Suitcases

You’re probably a little stumped by the title of this blog.  This is what Amanda Lawford will be bringing with her on Monday, March 23rd.

Amanda has been on a little road trip, visiting friends in the area and is going to stop by the shop on Monday.  She will be bringing her “magic suitcases” with her.  Suitcases full of canvases.  . . does it get any better than that?

All of her canvases will be 20% off the one day only.  We will be open from 11-3 just for her visit.

The first time I met Amanda, she was still living in New York City and she met me at the store before I opened to place an order.  Little did I know that she would be bringing her magic suitcases.  I was so overwhelmed with her vast line of canvases that I could just take right then and there.  I had a HUGE pile of canvases and just took half of it, not even looking what was in it the pile, and said “Just take those away.”  I spent a bloody fortune!

So, be sure to stop by the shop on Monday to meet Amanda and check out her full line of canvases.

These are a few of my favorite canvases of hers.  And yes . . .I have all of these in my own stash.

nycI can’t wait to talk with her about this piece.  Patti and I are gearing up to work on this piece together.  We have a few questions for her about the design.  Our plan is to work on one building at a time.  The other person can’t go on in the piece until both of us have completed that building.  Good plan, right?  Maybe we’ll actually get it done one day.
