Gearing Up

You’ve probably been wondering where I’ve been.  I was on vacation enjoying a little r & r with my family.  But, I’m back in full swing, gearing up for a busy fall.  We’ve got three visiting teachers on the schedule, Julia Snyder, Vicky DeAngelis and Meredith Willett. A few classes planned in the shop. A trip to Dallas for the Cash & Carry Market.  And our retreat, of course!

I’ve been working away on the piece.  And yes, I will get it finished in time.

retreat-1

Next year I won’t pick such a difficult piece.  I have ripped out this snow more times than I can to share.  Becki and I had every white and off white thread in the store out.  But, I finally figured it out.

retreat-2

Everything is such a delicate and light touch on this piece.

retreat-3

I love laid and tied stitches.  I think there’s going to be a lot of those in this piece.

The retreat is October 24th-26th at The Water’s Edge in Westbrook, CT.  We still have a few spots if you would like to join us.

If you can’t make it to the retreat, kits will be available after the retreat.  Please order by August 24th to assure that your canvas arrives in the first shipment.

Happy Stitching!  I know I have a lot of it to do.

New Needlepoint Book

Rumors started a few years ago that Jo Christensen was going to update “The Needlepoint Book” or the Bible as we all lovingly refer to it.  It’s been a long time coming, but it will be published in November.  I can’t wait to see what’s inside!

Jo stopped by the shop earlier in the summer. What a surprise! Of course it was one of the rare days that I leave early.  Trip and I were walking into Toys ‘r Us when Jinny called me to let me know that Jo was in the shop.  I frantically ran through the store, letting Trip get pretty much anything he wanted so we could get out of there as fast a possible.  I knew Jo was in good hands with Becki entertaining her at the shop.

We are taking preorders for the book now.  You can call the shop, email or order online.

There’s even a little talk that Jo might come teach at the shop next summer.  You just never know what’s going to happen around here!

Petite Berry Basket

Summer has been so wonderful.  Down time for stitching.  None of the hectic running around with school.  I’m not looking forward to August 25th when school starts again.  Neither is Trip.  I’ve been able to stitch my brains out!

berry-basket-2

I started working on this Melissa Shirley piece about 3 weeks ago. Such a fun stitch!  I loved this piece when it first came in back in February, but a customer snatched it up.  How dare she!

berry-basket-3

I used some drop beads on the larger strawberries.  I love to find a reason to use those beads.berry-basket-4

The blueberries were tricky.  Washers were too big.  I happened to come across just the right thing in our bling box.berry-basket-5

Nothing could be faster than stitching this basket.  I tried the gingham stitch on the tablecloth, but it just wouldn’t fit the count.  I hate when the happens.  So, you just have to find another way to create the same look.

Canvases are on order and the stitch guide is written.

Call the shop to order or order online.

Canvas:  $182.  Thread kit:$115  Stitch guide is included for free with the purchase of the canvas and threads.  The stitch guide is available separately for $50.

Needlepoint Nation 2014

What a weekend!  I am so lucky to be able to host such a wonderful group of talented stitchers at my shop.

nn1

We hosted 20 women on Friday and 23 on Saturday.  Boy was I tired.

nn2

Here’s our girl Becki working with Kim on “Becki Beading.”  What a quick and easy way to bead.  And you know I like quick and easy.nn3

People came from New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey and Rhode Island.  Die hard stitchers!nn4

Thanks to all of the wonderful women who busted their humps working at the shop.  You know I couldn’t do this without you!

How Annoying! Running Out of Stuff

I’ve been enjoying a few days away with the family at the beach and I have run into the most annoying problem.  I’ve run out of stuff on two projects.  This is annoying!  I don’t know how all of you deal.  I guess I am just so spoiled that I go to a shop every day.

berry-basket

I’ve been working on the little berry basket by Melissa Shirley.  I can still finish the strawberries.  Then do a little beading.  I just hate to start the beading because I know when I go back with the other threads, they are going to keep getting caught.

birds-xmas-tree

This Scott Church piece has been calling my name for a while.  I had to ignore it while I finished some of my homework.  I love the messy beading that I started on the nest, but I need smaller beads.  Size 11 beads will be overwhelming.  I can still stitch the tree.  I need to add a sequin in the center of the stars in the background with a cub bead holding them in place. I’ve got the beads, no sequins.  I think the background needs another layer.  Maybe a little Kreinik Marshmallow or Easter Grass?

Don’t forget that we have a CBK trunk show in the shop, which includes Scott Church canvases.  All the canvases are 20% off, in stock and special order.

We’ve got a busy week at the shop this weekend, getting ready for Needlepoint Nation Stitch In next weekend.  I’ll keep you posted!

Happy Fourth of July!

Hot off the stretcher bars!  I just finished the first piece in our Americana Club. I’ve been having a glorious stitching marathon on this cold and rainy (blah) Fourth of July.  Guess there’s worse things I could be doing!

Thistle Birdhouse

The last birdhouse is complete in our Melissa Prince Birdhouse Club.

thistle-2

This was my least favorite of the series, as an unstitched canvas.  But, it turned out to be favorite one.  Off to the finisher it goes!

The last installment of the club will ship out next week.  Just waiting on some beads.
